Michael Jackson’s dangerous addiction to sleeping pills July 3, 2009
Posted by Sleep Enough in : Sleep news , add a commentOne of my pop idols back in my childhood days was Michael Jackson. Yes he was weird, but to me, he is still the King of Pop. I admire the guy for his music, message, dancing, and superb entertaining skills. But of course, the media just could not stop hounding him for years, and years. So when I heard he had died of an apparent cardiac arrest, I wasn’t really surprised. The world has hardly ever given MJ a break, and I knew eventually something like this was going to happen.
More suspicious though, was the behavior of his doctor as reported in the media - and his ultimately fatal addiction to sleeping pills, which seems to be what tipped him over the edge. (more…)
Lorazepam – The facts June 14, 2009
Posted by Sleep Enough in : General , add a commentI’ve taken lorazepam on and off in the past over some years, and I realize some people might want to know more about it. First off, lorazepam is not some drug you can take wantonly. It belongs to the benzodiazepine group of anti anxiety drugs and it does what it says - with side effects.
Lorazepam is perhaps better known by its commercial brand name - Ativan. It is quite similar to another anti anxiety drug hydroxyzine or Atarax, but with a difference - More subtle, and longer running. That means it takes a long time to clear from the body, at least based on my experience. If you take Lorazepam at night, the chances are high that the next day you’ll be feeling the side effects for much of the day! (more…)
Iodine and sleep June 2, 2009
Posted by Sleep Enough in : Pineal gland , add a commentA while ago I talked about the role of the pineal gland in releasing melatonin and how you should take care of it well, because as you know a disrupted melatonin output stemming from an unhealthy pineal gland can result in insomnia or at best (if you take sleep pills), unrefreshing sleep. Well, here’s an update, adding on to what I did for myself to try to reverse the damage to my pineal gland caused by years of fluoride, stress, and toxins in my food and drink!
I’ve been taking Lugol’s iodine for more than half a year now. The dosage I’m taking is an iodine solution of 5% added to distilled water and potassium iodide, making up 85% and 10% respectively. You can also get iodine supplement tablets (ie Iodorol), which is less concentrated than the liquid form, but more convenient, I guess. (more…)
Sleepwalking May 13, 2009
Posted by Sleep Enough in : Sleepwalking , add a commentSleepwalking is a strange sleep disorder that affects quite a number of people. Also going by the name, somnambulism, sleepwalking is one of the sleep disorders labeled parasomnias. The sufferer behaves like a fully awake person; only thing is, he/she is asleep at the same time. It is most prone to happen during Stage 3 and 4 of the sleep phase (slow wave sleep).
Sleepwalking affects children (age 4-12) more than adults, because children generally have a longer period of slow wave sleep than adults, but it can happen at any age. Somnambulism occurs during deep non REM sleep, which is the Stage 3 and 4 period. The more extreme cases of sleepwalking include having sleep sex, driving, and even murder. That’s what makes sleepwalking one of the most hazardous sleep disorders around in my opinion. (more…)
There’s a lot more to the pineal gland than meets the eye May 1, 2009
Posted by Sleep Enough in : Pineal gland , add a commentThe pineal gland is the one organ that you should be paying a lot more attention to, especially if you care about your health - and sleep. And yet, the pineal gland is one of the most enigmatic and least known of all the endocrine glands of the human body. Hopefully that will change soon as mankind begins to realize its importance.
It is small, actually one of the smallest organs in the body, and yet make no mistake, the pineal gland is one of the most influential and important organs in your body. I’m just surprised why the medical community always downplays the significance of the pineal gland and assumes it only produces melatonin, when there is a lot more that it does. (more…)
